Zig-zagging Zamboni driver arrested in Fargo for suspected DUI Spectators called the cops to report erratic ice resurfacing.

Local news site Inforum reports that the 27-year-old Zamboni operator was arrested after a Fargo Park District school official called in a report at the behest of concerned parents. It seems the operator wasn't quite nailing the soothingly smooth lines and graceful curves most Zamboni laps are known for.

After the allegedly intoxicated ice resurfacer was relieved of his driver's seat, the coaches of the Davies and Williston teams decided their players would endure rough ice rather than wait for a backup driver.

Fargo Police Lt. Joel Vettel told Inforum that, while the incident didn't occur on a public street, North Dakota law holds any heavily intoxicated motor vehicle operator liable for arrest.

"Certainly this is a very  unique situation, one that to my knowledge we have not seen here in the city of Fargo," Vettel said.

Had he been elsewhere, the zig-zagging Zamboni operator might not have suffered such a fate: As Kevin Draper of Deadspin discovered, the state of New Jersey doesn't consider inebriated Zamboni operation to be a DUI since the 8,000-lb. machines don't carry passengers and can't be driven on highways.

We just wonder if the driver maybe indulged in a little too much Natural Ice.
